Difference between Error Reporting and Error Checking?

Difference between Error Reporting and Error Checking? Error reporting is on the session layer and error checking is on the transport layer. Whats the difference?

I think it works like this, the session layer maintains that the two computers keep communicating, on say a particular application, and sends an error report to the user, and the Transport layer checks that packets arrive correctly, correct me anyone if this wrong.
