MS Sharepoint portal server and SQL server
agustinchernitsky
Hello Everyone!
Has anyone got any experience with Sharepoint Portal server? I have one question:
A customer needs to buy the server for 40 users. How many SQL CAL licenses does he need? A company suggested that he needs the same number of CAL licenses for SQL as for Sharepoint (ie 40 each).
Doesn't Sharepoint use one SQL user to query the SQL db??? I have a lot of experience with web sites that query SQL servers, but they only use un CAL license per site.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!

I run Sharepoint services as a part of our intranet and share files through it - I love it.
The SQL stuff really depends on which version you run and what your software requires. Some software you can get away with one license where the app uses the 1 user account to retrieve data, other requires CALs or processor licenses. GL

So you can configure it to use one SQL CAL? Is that possible?

depending on your software, yes. You can also buy a CPU license which gives you unlimited access.
