Microskills CLOSURE!

Does anyone here attend Microskills school in San Diego Calif? I am a student there and I have been told the school was shut down today by the Calif Bureau for Private Postsecondary & Vocational Education. The phones go to a answering service and their website is down. One of the student advisors said they were told to get their stuff and get out. I was in morning class today and all seemed ok. Anyone have any info on this and has anyone had to resume courses after a school closure? Any input would be great. I am freakin out cause I quit my job to go to school full time so now I have no job and no school.

Plantwiz Mod Posts: 5,057 ModNever heard of them. Then again, I don't live in CA.
Their website appears to be functioning tonight, but it could just be they haven't taken it down yet.
Anything on your local news? Usually if its something big..it will be on the news.
Why not enroll in a regular University? Doesn't CA have excellent IT course? It's a big state, so I cannot say where I've heard of people talking...but it seems that the people I hear from who live in CA never have trouble taking a college course.
I suppose you'll find out more on Monday Morning.Plantwiz

blargoe Member Posts: 4,174 ■■■■■■■■■□That's always a danger when you go to an overpriced commercial tech "school". You can get the same training at your local community college for much less, probably. I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune.IT guy since 12/00
Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)

Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands... -

PadsFan Member Posts: 6 ■□□□□□□□□□That was the only Microskills school. I will find more out about a refund. I have a student loan that was fully funded to the school already so I am not sure how thats going to work out. Just another thing to overcome in life I guess, just sucks to have to deal with when all I want to do is study, learn and get a job and work. Thanks to all those that replied I appreciate your input.

I understand and almost entered into something similar here locally. The after meeting with the school realized VERY quickly that for $10K I could buy a lot of books and upgrade various lab equipment I already had and accomplish the same thing. (they bugged me for about 1 year to 'sign-up'). Thank goodness I gave them my work number and once I got a better job...they disapeared
Anyway, tough luck on that. Don't fret until Monday and then you'll get some answers
Please do keep us posted on how you make out! It may serve as a warning to others....or a light at the end of the tunnel for the next person who runs into this.Plantwiz

I believe that your link is for a general directory of schools and not specifically microskills alone.
Microskills website is simply www.microskills.comWho knows what evil lurks in the heart of technology?... The Shadow DO -

DrDave Member Posts: 1 ■□□□□□□□□□PadsFan,
I just called the BPPVE (Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education - http://www.bppve.ca.gov) about the closure of MicroSkills. They say they've had quite a few calls about it today, but they only found out about it this morning. They say their school closure hotline and website will probably be updated tomorrow to reflect the closure, so I suggest you check back in a couple of days to see what your options are.
The website for BPPVE school closure information is:
http://www.bppve.ca.gov/press_releases/closed_schools.htm
and their number is (916) 445 3427, just cut to the operator and ask to put you through to the schools closure hotline.
Fortuantely I've finished all my courses at Micro$kills before this happened, but I still have to do my N+ exam to get my last certification. Hopefully everyone who was at MicroSkills will be able to transfer to the New Horizons computing school which is in the same building and right next door to MicroSkills (how convienient both for us and for them!).
Hope that helps. -

I attend Computer Education San Diego, Inc. I have taken their CCNA, Security + and a couple of the MCSE courses. I am working towards my MCSE. My experience with Computer Education San Diego, Inc., has been very positive. The administration people have been very knowledgeable and very helpful. Their instructors are all certified and they make sure that everyone understands the material before moving on. The class sizes are smaller than at other schools I considered so it allows one on one time with the instructor and better attention for those in class. Their tuition is much more reasonable than Microskills too.

Tcat Member Posts: 66 ■■□□□□□□□□I do some classes for the folks at CESD. Smaller classes and lower fees over MicroSkills is accurate. I won't be back there til 2007 soonest, as I am busy with the CST and CNST books with my co-author. And CESD has good coffee tooSave A Frog! Join the ETA!
