Ricka182 Member Posts: 3,359I'll give him a congrats for being the best at what he did, but what he did does not make him an athlete. IMO, to be an athlete, you must actually move your body, not just the vehicle carrying it. Take nothing away from his skills as a driver, but in any circuit, F1, Nascar, whatever, race car drivers are drivers, not athletes. You don't have to be in good shape to be a good driver, somewhat like golf. Let the arguments begin.....i remain, he who remains to be....

strauchr Member Posts: 528 ■■■□□□□□□□How could you not know who he is? F-1 is the worlds highest most elite level of race car driving. Nothing else even comes close.
And he is the biggest name in the sport.
Well at least it might even the field out a bit now instead of Schumacher and Ferrari winning all the time.
As for not being an athlete well that is debatable. Traditionally they are not athletes however race car driving requires a very high level of fitness, strength and co-ordination to drive those cars. Your body takes a hammering with all the force of stopping and accelerating at extremely high speeds. Its not like nascar where they just go round in circles its more like street circuit racing.
They have a race in the US

and Canada

and just about every other country in the world inclduing Australia (just I thought I'd throw that in )

LOL
so wut are u saying, U could be a formula1 driver? LOL
If I dedicated the time from the start, and actually had the desire to be an F1 racer, of course I could, same as you. From now in my life, obviously not....remember, there is a gas pedal, a brake, and some shifting controls, then it's nothing more than acquired skill, which comes with time.......i remain, he who remains to be.... -

Well, I'm probably only 1 of a few who don't know who he is/was (nor did my husband or our friends this weekend..so I'm not completely alone...though maybe it's because none of us watch racing ). Racing is lame. While I'll agree it would qualify as entertainment (bad entertainment), before it qualifies as a sport. Race Car drivers have to be in very good shape (athletically) to hold themselves in their seats due to the g's they can experience and how much they are tossed around in side the car....it's very difficult on the body.
Nope not a sport. Hockey, Soccer...SportsPlantwiz

strauchr Member Posts: 528 ■■■□□□□□□□I am with you, motorsport is down the list of my favourite sports. I prefer more athletic brutal sports but motorsport is good too.
Motorsport is brutal but in a different way.
