NETWORK ADMMIN VS SYSTEM ADMIN

looking at a few posts and it seems to me that the majority of the folks on the site are looking for certs to help them get into netadmin/sys admin
jobs.
i am wondering is the mcse train the best one to ride or is it cisco. also for those of us with an interest in security is the mcse security really needed or should it included with security + and the ccsp.

It depends on what you want to do and how broad you would like your knowledge to be. The term "Sys Admin" can mean a bunch of different things, but I think in most cases it refers to the server side of things.
CCNA is obviously more hardware/network/infrastructure related, whereas MCSE/MCSA is more server administration related. If you're working in a small to medium size company where the IT department is small, it would probably be ideal to have both. That way you're the jack of all trades.
However, in larger companies it would probably be fine to pick the one that interests you the most and go with that first. Maybe down the road if you have the time and money you cold work towards the other. -

so basically ride dirty with the mcsa and ccna untill you can work your way into a larger company then get the mcse/ccnp

Again...it really comes down to what you want to do more.

Some companies view the network admin as more of the hardware guru and the systems admin as the software guru. One of the job postings for a county was for both a systems admin and a network admin. The description of both were different. The network admin had a lot of Cisco requirements and listed a lot of routers, switches, and other hardware. The systems admin posting for the same county listed that they wanted someone who could work AD, Server 2003, DNS, DHCP, Citrix, and other software and applications relating to server.
It all depends on what the company wants to tag the person with.

Neither is "better" really... Depends on the person and the company

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
