OS test strategy

ricktearicktea Inactive Imported Users Posts: 118
Hi,
I was able to pass the Hardware test recently, and
have just 7 weeks remaining to pass the OS test.
If I fail the 1st time, I can take it right away, but if I fail
it second time I must wait 30 days, which will bring me OVER
the deadline to pass BOTH tests by December 31, 2006.

What would be my best strategy in taking the test, and retaking
the test if I fail. What I mean what is the best time frame.
Thankyou, Rick
Richard Krenzel

The best strategy imo is to have some more confidence in yourself. Go for a perfect score and give it all you got.

If you don't pass, you should probably not retake it right away but at least give yourself a week or so.

thanks, I am just worried that I have 2 attempts to pass the OS
test, than I must wait 30 days to take a 3rd attempt which will
then put the date Beyond the December 31st deadline.

I would like to figure out a way to make 3 attempts within the next
7 weeks. Would you recommend this. Thankyou, Rick

You would just be setting yourself up for failure by trying to make sure you can get three attempts in by Dec06.

Concentrate instead on passing the first time, but leave a little leeway for a second try "just in case". I would schedule the first attempt for mid- December. That gives you plenty of study time and you should pass with no problem. If you get a mental block or just get a lot of questions that are out of the ordinary, you will have a week or two to brush up, regroup and retake it.
All things are possible, only believe.

You can do this the first time, just focus on your studies, I recommend that you setup Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP on VMWare and study on the Mike Myers Book. This exam is a very exam also, just relax and have fun studying and installing this OS.

thanks, it sounds like a good strategy, what are some
of the materials that you used to pass the OS test,
Cts?s books, etc. I do have mental blocks during
the Hardware test, it took me all the 90 minutes to pass.
How can I compensate for mental blocks and retention
of information that is so vast? thanks, rick

Hi, it sounds very interesting about the Virtual Machine,
I've never heard of this quite often. How do I set
up the Virtual Machine ware ? And then study on it
the different Operating Systems ? Is there a website
to download this VM, I am running XP on my laptop
    right now. thanks Ric

Confidence is key. If you KNOW the material, you won't get stuck on trick questions. This is another reason why you should make sure you are REALLY ready before plunging in to take the exam. If you were to try and take it 3 times before years end, you would have to take the first try by the third week of this month and you would be nervous and unsure of yourself, second guessing all your answers. Be cool, stay focused, and relax. Confidence in knowing the material will keep you from freezing up during the exam. You can do it! icon_cool.gif

I used the Mike Myers All in One 5th Edition....but I have my 8 yrs of experience on Tech Support job. I just finished my A+ OS and HW for almost 1 1/4 mos. Anyway, you can pass this easily if you setup the Windows OS and play with it...installations, upgrading, troubleshoot ( try to crash it then repair it again....also study the different DOS Commands.. Youll be fine, just before taking your exam, relax yourself, don't pressure yourself. Theres a lot of time for this exam for you.....

you can set it up on your XP laptop, as long as you have 1GB of Memory and some 50 GB or more for free Harddisk, you can play with windows 95, windows 98 and NT in your Windows XP Laptop. VMWare is running an OS within an OS....

2 books, 2 practice exams, & an OS to practice on.
The OS test is much easier than the hardware.
Know what makes things not work, because troubleshooting is a key component. It's all in the objectives.
No matter how paranoid you are, you're not paranoid enough.

I agree that OS is much easier than Hardware....Hardware is more on memorization
