drive mapping

I keep seeing the term "drive mapping" in various books and review sheets. What exactly is "drive mapping" and how does it relate to the OS test?

Drive mapping usually refers to assigning a drive letter to a shared network resource. That way, you can access the resource easily in Windows Explorer or a command prompt, without having to remember the full network path. As for the OS test, I don't remember it coming up.

I think there was a question on my OS test about drive mapping. Not that I remember, in the slightest, what it was or what kind of question it was.
