Subnetting questions for ccna

I think I have nearly cracked these now after many many hours trying different methods I found the light by working in binary. So much easier.
However, with design questions where you need X subnets with Y hosts, do you answer with the theoretical minimum mask that would meet the needs of the question?
What I mean is, if the minimum theoretical subnet range would leave it very limited in growth potential, would the correct answer be to take that into account and answer with a mask that would easily cover whats required giving room for growth?
Do Cisco want us to just do the math on these questions or bring some design thought into it as well ?
Anyone any ideas?

EdTheLad Member Posts: 2,111 ■■■■□□□□□□If you are asked the minimum they want the minimum,if they are asking about design they would ask "What mask should you use to allow 10 hosts, taking into account that there will be a 300% increase in users over the next 5 years?" Its good practise to answer the given questions rather than making up your own, you'll score better.Networking, sometimes i love it, mostly i hate it.Its all about the $$$$

I been studying this so long now I am starting to get a little strung out by it and thinking a little too much about the questions.Kam. -
MALLYG34 Inactive Imported Users Posts: 20 ■□□□□□□□□□Im studying using the cisco press intro book. It says there is a easy way to subnetting when u have difficult mask such as 255.255.255.192 with an ip address of 10.1.1.1. It says if u subtract 192 from 256 and multiply the answer and so on. If anybody has read the book and know what im talking about tell why i dont seem to get the right subnet when i do it that way. I have to use the boolean method to get the subnet.Anyone living in New York looking for a study partner for the CCNA. Email me at JSlade@schools.nyc.gov.
