in CCNA & CCENT
Hello everybody.
Since a few day's I have my own Cisco Lab in preparation of my CCNA exam. Everything works fine except for the 2501 router that i have.
When it boots i get this output:
And it stops responding at this point.
Whatever i do now, it doesn't respond.
I'm shore that secure CRT is well configured, because i have 5 other routers and everything works fine there.
But, to be shore, i tried hyperterminal also. It has the same effect.
I also tried to use Ctrl-break during boot and i get this:
When i try to type something here, no characters are showed.
(With my other routers, this works fine.)
Does anyone know what the problem is?
What does *Mar 1 00:01:17.299: %SNMP-5-COLDSTART: SNMP agent on host RouterA is undergoing a cold start means?
Thanks in advance for your help!

jvh82 Member Posts: 9 ■□□□□□□□□□It has maybe something to do with a corrupt or wrong config.
Is there a way to erase the nvram? Bij open up the router and connect jumpers? How are you? -
Danman32 Member Posts: 1,243Well, Ctrl-break can bring you to bootrom code. From there you can set the soft config switches so that config is not read.
Try following the steps in resetting one's password, but instead of restoring/reloading the stored config in NVRam, save the running default config to NVRam.
If you can't even get that far, that is you can't run the default config, then you might have a corrupt IOS, bootloader, or hardware.
I ought to get a cheap router and practice getting in and out of such trouble, so I can get good at fixing these kinds of things. I love this kind of troubleshooting stuff. -
jvh82 Member Posts: 9 ■□□□□□□□□□The problem is that i can do nothing in bootrom mode or normal mode.
Whatever i type, nothing appears on the screen.
So i guess there is an hardware problem? How are you? -
Danman32 Member Posts: 1,243Or a hyperterminal config, or a cable problem.
Try the aux console if it has one. -

jvh82 Member Posts: 9 ■□□□□□□□□□Problem solved!!
Because i could see al the text send by the routerconsole, but i could not type anything i was thinking that maybe the problem is not the router, but my PC.
In hyperterminal and secure CRT there is some sort of flow control enabled (hardware with hyperterminal and RTS/CTS with secureCRT).
From the moment i disabled this i can do everything again.
This is strange because, with my 4 other routers, it works with the flow control enabled and first it worked with te 'broken router' to.
But when it is turned off it works with all the routers...
Maybe it's a sign that the router is almost broken???
Anyway, thx for your help forbesl and Danman32!How are you?
