Turn off my Captions, please !
Hello, I have XP, when I go to the START Menu
and run something, there is always some big
fAT CAPTION blocking something so I can't
see the menu. Like "You have unused Icons"
or something like that " or other Captions.
Please, how can I turn off the captions. Is
there a way in XP without editing the registry
or something. Thankyou, Ric

Slowhand Mod Posts: 5,161 ModYou're talking about the "hide inactive icons" caption for the system tray. Right-click on the taskbar, (not on the system tray or on the start menu,) go to "Properties", and uncheck the box for "Hide Inactive Icons".

Cannot fit in all listings in start menu" This is a big caption baloon
that pops up frequently, any idea how I can get rid of it. This caption
pops up when I go near or click on start menu button. thanksRichard Krenzel -
Silver Bullet Member Posts: 676 ■■■□□□□□□□Have you tried enabling "Remove Balloon Tips on Start Menu Items" in User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Start Menu and Taskbar of the local group policy?
Not sure if that is what you are looking for, but sounds like it might be. -

Type gpedit.msc
Expand User configuration
Expand Administrative Templates
Highlight Start Menu and Taskbar
To the right...scroll down to Remove Balloon Tips on Start Menu Items and double click it.
Click on the Enable Radio button and choose Apply and/or Ok. -

2. Click "Run".
3. Type "gpedit.msc".
4. Click "Okay".
5. Click the "+" sign next to "Administrative Templates" under the "User Configuration" section.
6. Click to highlight and select the "Start Menu and Taskbar" folder.
7. In the right hand panel, scroll down and double click the entry called "Remove Balloon Tips on Start Menu items".
8. Select the radio button next to "Enabled".
9. Click "Okay".
10. Close the Group Policy MMC by clicking the little red "x" at the top right hand corner.
You may have to refresh group policy for this to take effect immediately, but if so just reboot instead. All things are possible, only believe. -
