Thanks to all who chimed in. Made an 89%.

I took the official course (which came with the material), but I would not recommend it because it was so expensive. I went that route because my job payed for it.

I do recommend the official courseware, only because you get the tools - the books could be a little better. I understand that a new version (v5) of the exam is out and will be offered in Jan of 2007.

I did also get the study guide from cramsession. It lays out all of the subjects nice and neat. I also used the internet and the 'links directory' on this site for additional reference.

Note to webmaster: I did not see any sample exam questions from Boson for CEH. Maybe I missed something, but they were not on the demo test engine.

Thanks again...up next CISSP! icon_eek.gif

There are a ton of tools that are covered in the official course. It is was nice to have all of the tools that were talked about at your fingertips. The official courseware also comes with a lab manual that gives you practice exercises with the tools that are covered on the exam.

Lots of the tools, especially the older ones that don't work anymore, are actually kind of hard to come by nowadays. Not sure I'll ever reference the course books (which are mostly pics of the slides and don't have an index) like I will Michael Gregg's outstanding CEH Exam Prep book, but those lab CDs are definitely nice to have.

The Linux boot CD is just Knoppix-STD with a C|EH wallpaper BTW.

I started to read some material for C |EH.

I read the Art of Instrusion by Kevin Mitnick . icon_eek.gif It's pretty nice to read and understand.

I see that CEH is a interesting security certification , not hard at all ( I think ).There are many things I already know from other certs.

If someone is willing to make a online - study group , for CEH , PM me . ( it may be easier ).

    Hoewer , how many CEH are world-wide ? icon_eek.gif

The aim of the C|EH is to get you familar with the actual tools that can be used to carry out some of the activity you learned about via your other certs. For example, every Systems Admin in world will tell you that WEP is easy to crack, but how many can actually sit down and demonstrate the hack? Everyone knows if you're running a Windows 2003 server with all the latest patches and security updates, its still possible to gain root access to it in under 5 minutes without knowing any account password; but again, how many of the ones who say it can actually do it? Anyone who's taken a C|EH class (at least one that I taught), can execute both of these processes without any problem. Can you look at traffic in ethereal or any common packet sniffer and know that someone is attempting SQL injection or cross-site scripting on your box? These are the kinds of skills you should gain from C|EH knowledge. That's why it's called Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures. You execute a hack, and watch what happens while it's in process. Then you come up with countermeasures to either prevent or at least alert you as to when it's happening.

Once again, I passed this exam on Nov. 18th 2006. I understand that there could be a significant waiting period before getting any word from EC Council.

Does anyone think this has been too long, and if so, what is the next step?

    Thanks...
