Im setting up a VPN on a clients server so that he can remote access it from home using windows remote desktop console. The server is running W2K and has one NIC installed. They have internet access which has a Static IP address. There router is connceted to a 16 Port switch.
Q1 how do i set up the VPN with only one NIc
Q2 if i install anouther NIc how do i configure one for the Internet and ther other for the internal network.
They also use remote destop to access the server from there work stations.
The servers ip address is static but the router has DHCP enabled.

sprkymrk Member Posts: 4,884 ■■■□□□□□□□You need to set up RRAS on the server, then run through the VPN wizard.
On the router you need to allow UDP 500 and IP type 50 through to the server. Otherwise, depending on security and the router, you might just set up port forwarding or otherwise allow 3389 through to your server. RDP v2 uses 128bit encryption if I remember correctly. However there are exploits available against RDP so use caution.
What kind of router/firewall is it?
Does he want to use RDP to the server itself or a workstation? All things are possible, only believe. -
rjconnor Member Posts: 2 ■□□□□□□□□□Thanks for the information to answer your Q he wonts to access the server via RDP. The router is a D-Link DSL 504.
So when i run through the VPN wizzard and it only shows one NIC do i select the no internet option? -
sprkymrk Member Posts: 4,884 ■■■□□□□□□□Hmmm. I'll have to try it on a server at work. I guess I've never set up RRAS on a machine with only one nic. Meanwhile, check out the section Single-Adapter VPN Server from this link:

And then the section VPN Server Behind the Firewall here:
