Finally all wired up

So I finally finished wiring everything on this work lab... Sort of happy. Wish I didn't have to dive into work to get some OSPF labs done. In a while if I meet some cool people without resources to a lab, I might set something up to allow some playing.. I guess its a trust issue. Waiting for 2 serials @ home so I can finish some stuff there too. I feel like a turtle...

Home is now wired too... Finally took the time to get off my behind during the weekend...

    http://www.infiltrated.net/JanHomeLab/

I took out the Pix and a Netscreen I have since after all the majority of my focus will be on security. Currently setting up some Kerberos servers on Solaris 9, OpenBSD and Windows 2000. I will also do some RADIUS stuff. Why is this posted on CCNA... Didn't want to repost I guess... For those building labs looking to further from the CCNA to NP and VP take a look at the 3810's. I can't re-emphasize this... These are going for BUY NOW's of about 49.99 some times on e-Bay (with the exception of the 3810v and 3810V3)... In essence, its equivalent to a 3620/3640. You can get them with the FXS slot and DSP modules in them. Most have T1/E1 and dual serial.

Think about it... If you're willing to dish out say $60.00 for a 2501 that won't do much for other exams, its worth looking into these. What I've been noticing is that most people who re-sell these on ebay really don't know what they were used for and think they're strictly VoIP, and they're not. The do the same routing as any other Cisco device. If you shy away from getting a 36xx series, the 2524 is fine as well. I got lucky finding a couple of WIC's for under $20... Here's how, what and why...

    2 SM25-T1 1 SM25-56K4 = 9.99 + shipping = 19.99
    1 WIC-1DSU (56/64K) 10.00 + 10.00 shipping = 20.00

I scoured eBay and found these in mismarked sections. One was in electronic the other was in telecom, concentrator along with another 3810 I was checking out. They were marked as untested but luckily the lot of three was being sold by someone I've bought so called "untested" stuff from before... So even if they don't work... I'm out $40.00 of which if I were younger would have went to dumb stuff anyway (beer, magazines, etc)

So moral/advice of the story... For those building labs, you don't necessarily have to buy a prebuilt lab, you can do it on your own if you focus on what you want/need. Oh, and for those wondering about the Catalyst 5xxx all the way at the bottom of my equipment... Was given to me from a lot sitting around collecting dust. Had no power supply so the person just wanted to get rid of it. In every state there are liquidators, check around your phonebooks. You can call some of them and at times they have equipment lying around they love to rid themselves of. At least out here (New England ... Connecticut to be exact) they do... I came THISCLOSELIKETHISCLOSE to walking out with a Juniper Unisphere chassis for free. Thing is, I have no space nor any need for it. If anyone is in or around my area... I have a 7000 you can pick up for no charge... Sorry unwilling to do the shipping thing, its too much of a pain :\
