I recently passed the test and it wasnt that bad. you do have to prepare well tho. Just take your time and take the test when you know you are ready. The book I used was excellent.
Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals Second Edition by Thomsom Course Technology. This book is also Comptia Quality curriculum Authorized material. I think the book goes into just the perfect amount of detail for the exam. The ISBN number is 0-619-21566-6.
Also, make sure you use a practice test simulator such as Preplogic.

I can recommend the exact same book that Non-Profit Techie mentioned. I used it as my "only" book, (meaning I used other study materials and online resources in addition, but I didn't purchase another book.) I can also recommend the classics, CBT Nuggets and
TestOut
, for interactive training. And, of course, don't forget to pick up the lab manual for the Thomson book, which will give you a lot of hands-on labs to work with and set up, so you can really get some experience with what you're studying.

I am curious how employers view the security+ exam? Is it a worth while cert to have.

It's generally seen as an intro to security, it'd definitely worth having. I've gotten plenty of hits on my resume thanks to Security+; and I'm still getting hits, to this day. A lot of employers, (the ones who know about it,) will consider it as a "starter security cert", something to start you off before you go on to SSCP/CISSP, MCSE: Security, C|EH, and CCSP.

Interesting....will look at some material today.
Thanks,
