I believe, in this case, the correct anser is c)autoexec.bat
(It takes some digging in the memory banks, to remember which version of Windows uses what.)
Remember, you'll see a lot of questions like this on CompTIA exams, (and any other cert exam, for that matter,) that'll ask you for the best answer out of the choices given. It's not always the dead-on answer, but it's the best one they give you, that they're looking for.

This is an interesting question. I think the boot.ini is a definite requirement - even XP still uses the boot.ini. The system.ini is really a throwback to Windows 3.1 and autoexec.bat is for DOS. So if I had to choose 1, I'd say the boot.ini
Hudda, how is your study for the A+ progressing? Are you still planning on taking the exam? There are only 10 types of people in this world - People who understand binary and people who do not. -

I don't like any of the available choices. The reason is that you can disable the autexec.bat in the MSCONFIG utility for trouble shooting and the system will still boot. I found this archived document on MS:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/archive/fast-boot.mspxNo real mode processing. Windows Me does not process Autoexec.bat or Config.sys during the boot process.
I know the boot.ini is required for NT/2K/XP/2K3, but unless you are dual booting a W9x/ME system won't have this file. In Win9x/ME it uses IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS, config.sys, and it CAN use an autoexec but doesn't have to. I also remember the files system.dat and user.dat, but can't remember if that was for ME or just 9x.All things are possible, only believe.
