Considering ITT Tech - Yes or No?

Newbe here... looking for some info on ITT Tech. Yeah yeah, it's pricey - $425/credit. I'm not thrilled about that, but I am thrilled about the CEET degree. I have two brothers who have CE degrees, and other family with Mechanical/Drafting degrees. I have a solid knowledge of what I'm going to school for, so I'm not concerned about much except post graduation. Can I expect to profit from this leap I'm about to take? Thanx all!

You're choice, but if you have community colleges in the area....you'll likley find degree more desirable long term.

I agree completely with Plantwiz; check the IT programs at your local community college first and consider getting an A.S. degree with units that will transfer to universities where you can get a bachelors degree. A huge problem with many technical schools is that their units are not transferable to proper, accredited educational institutions. For me personally, transferability of credit is a necessary prerequisite for attending any type of formal schooling.

If you have alternatives, do those. But sometimes, time is a factor and ITT can speed things up. BUT if someone walks in with the same degree and experience as you, the person doing the hiring will side with the person with the "real" degree, everytime.

As a grad from the ITT CEET program I have to say that if your passion is IT/MIS/Networking then that is probably not the right program for you. In my opinion it is about 90% electronics and maybe 10% being very intro to computers. And since you were capable of finding your way to a pc and this website you could probably test out of half the computer classes.

The electronics aspect however is very intense and you could learn a lot in that area of study.

You ultimately just have to review your options and see what best works for your individual situation, but keep in mind that at 400+ a credit hour after two years that you could most likely have a bachelors from another school. If I had to do it over again I would have looked at their other programs and a lot harder at a couple other schools.

Thanx dubbs, I appreciate the input. 90% electronics? I was hoping to get more hands on with PC's. I'm not scheduled to start until June 12, so I'll look around a bit.

Another thing to take into consideration is that ITT does not share the same national accreditation that most schools do, so the the credits will not transfer to very many other colleges.

You cannot put a price on education, for your program I would go to a CC as those credits will transfer to a BA if need be.

If anybody has free time, would you check out these 2 programs? Offered by NWTC (northeast wisconsin technical college) They're between 8K - 10k for two years, compared to the 40k CEET through ITT Tech. A way better fit in my budget. I'm actually not sure which program to take, in all honesty, I was trying to stay away from the whole highly social college scene, that's why I started looking at ITT. I'm really not concerned about making huge money (not yet), but I do want to do something I enjoy - building/troubleshooting PC's. Thanx all.

Way to keep looking into options TenFold!!

The second link: Electrical Enginnering sounds more interesting to me, but what you decide will be what you enjoy. Talk to students already in the program to see what they like/dislike (careful on the dislike...some people just whine because a class actually requires homework

).

Personally, I think you'll find long-term you are happier with a degreed program on your resume rather then a tech-school. Merits to both, but 8K is a whole lot more responsible then 40K.....what is it you give up for the less cost? Or nothing?

go to 4 year university if you can. like garv221 said, paying a price for education is just plain outrageous

If by CE you mean Computer Engineering, then realize that a CE degree from an accredited 4 year institution cannot even be compared to anything you'll get from ITT Tech. It is many orders of magnitude more difficult than any program at ITT Tech, no matter what fancy name they give it.
