ipv6 eui-64 address
How do i find my routers Mac address.
When i use the ipv6 address x::/64 eui-64 command the router generates the
eui-64 address from the routers mac address.I've been searching but i cant find where
the mac is specified.A basic question but its wrecking my head.

Webmaster Admin Posts: 10,292 AdminI think he mean the base mac address of the router itself.
What you need Ed, is a cookie.
Run cookie in rommon, skip the first 4 characters, then the next 12 is the base mac address of the router itself burned into the mainboard at manufacturing.

"show interfaces" i wish
On my first read i was thinking the mac was taken from the actual interface, but i was wondering what happens with regard to the serial. After close inspection i realized the same interface-id is used for all interfaces which is created using the routers base mac address.Networking, sometimes i love it, mostly i hate it.Its all about the $$$$ -
PCHoldmann Member Posts: 450Ok, so I answered the wrong question...
Depending on the platform, this info may also be available the the show cXXXX (i.e. show c3600 on a 3600), show diag (3800), show catalyst6000 (6500), etc. I have noticed inconsistant output on these (show c1700 doesn't have it), results may vary. There's no place like ^$
