Nervous about job

Hey fellas, I have a dilemma. I have a second interview for the IT support specialist job I applied for. It's really an admin job for a small company with a few servers and about 30 workstations. The thing is, I have never done admin work professionally. I have done things in labs, school and at home. I am kind of nervous that when I get the job I won't know where the hell to start. In the interview they said I would be "The IT guy". Should I even consider taking this job? I am not studying for my MCSE although I do occassionally read the study kit. I was working on my CCNA and then I was going to shoot for a Microsoft cert. The interview is this Friday. Any thoughts would help.

If this is your first job, feel lucky to get a second interview. Do state your willingness to pursue certifications and becoming more skilled. Tell them that you will start slowly and up your pace in a few weeks(months).

I would not let such opportunity pass by.

And most of all - don't make impression that you're desperate for the job. Rather emphasise that you understand the responsibility this job requires and that it positively challenges you.

In fact your nervousness will hopefully mean you will do it well and be keen and willing to help. I know I was nervous as hell in my first IT job. Helpdesk / pc support some 15 years ago. The nervousness served me well.

Yeah, although I am inexperienced my willingness to learn and achieve will overcome it. Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

Go for it BIG Time, i am in a similar position to you as i have just taken on the role of Senior Tech after 14 months at my work and now i am in charge of guys that have been there for years!! I am as nervous as hell but i am willing to knuckle down and learn. Go for it and make it your own!!

Well there is nothing for me to be nervous about. I received a call from HR today for the job that I had a second interview for tomorrow. Seems that the guy who left the position to work at another company found that he didn't like the other job as much and asked for his old job back and I got shafted. Sucks royally.

DarbyWeaver, No wonder dude look at your cert list. your loaded man. ha ha. I need to get on the ball like that. what business & location was this that you got this linux job? I'm curious because I currently live in Utah and I'm thinking about moving out of the area to a more tech savvy area. I'd prefer to stay away from Silicon Valley however because even though I love California the cost of living is outrageous for my standards anyway.
