Techexams question

20. You want to reduce the amount of space used on one of your FAT32 drive fast, so you decide to compress a folder named Odata with user data such as Word and Excel docs. When you want to enable compression on the folders properties sheet you notice compression is not available. How can you compress the files with the least amount of administrative effort and still be able to read the files?

a. Convert the drive to NTFS using convert.exe /fs:ntfs to enable NTFS File Compression
b. Convert the drive to NTFS using fs.exe /ntfs to enable NTFS File Compression
c. Create a new Compressed Folder and drag all the files from the Odata folder to the Compressed Folder and delete the original Odata folder
d. Use NTbackup.exe to create a file backup with maximum compression and delete the original Odata folder

The answer said c. but you cannot create a compressed folder on a fat32 file system. I know the question said "least amount of effort" so that means there is more than 1 answer. But it has to be A unless they are just simply assuming that you would create a seperate compressed folder on another ntfs drive.

Am I missing anything? Is there a Microsoft answer to this that I should just chalk up to? Has anyone seen a question just like this on the real test?

Thanks

You want to compress your Fat32 drive. Drivespace3 compression. No conversion necessary, easy configuration, solution to the need fulfilled. Yes you tried to compress a folder and it wasn't available, but the need is still to compress your fat32 drive, which drivespace3 accomplishes. Oh and btw, welcome to the site!

Also, I know my explanation is not a direct answer to any of the questions provided, but if it was a legacy OS and you needed to compress the entire drive, you'd use Drivespace 3. If you were to choose from the questions provided, the answer is explained in Webmaster's link provided by the link that Silver Bullet just posted.

Since my explanation was not understandable for someone else and didn't include "Drivespace3" icon_rolleyes.gif as a solution... I have provided all of the remaining links that pertain to this question. icon_lol.gif

? My reply after your post was because I made a mistake and didn't even answer the original question. The original link you provided basically corrected me and showed me the correct answer. Your reply makes it sound like I was saying you are incorrect which is completely not the case. After re-reading my reply, I can see how it could have been interpreted as me trying to look as my original answer is still correct, which as I said, was not my intent. My apologies. :)
