ok guys,
in celticrover exams.. there is this question which asks which kind of cable connection to be used to telnet from a user's desktop PC directly to the router,
and the answer was "Connect the Ethernet port of the Desktop PC to the Ethernet port of the router using a crossover cable. "
Though, my book Todd Lammle, it says that it is a rolled cable.
so which one shall I go for..
thanks

A rollover cable or crossover cable means the same thing. just different name. It's also called the console cable. Meaning pin 1-8 is connected in reverse on the other end of the RJ45 connector. -

Just ask the technical question...A rollover cable or crossover cable means the same thing. just different name. It's also called the console cable. kicker22 Member Posts: 80 ■■□□□□□□□□ok nevermind!
the answer for this is...
to connet to the console you use rollover cable and you need an extra interface for that too..
but you can use rj 45 to connect between router and host..through ethernet interface..

To connect to Ethernet interface, use crossover cable. -
denverhoss Member Posts: 1 ■□□□□□□□□□I think your original question asked about Telnetting, as far as I know you don't Telnet to the console port, so the answer would be cross-over cable between Ethernet ports.
