Feedback on router RIP

I'll be doing a RIP example for my mid-term, and I need some help. I want to make sure I have this right. Here's what I know so far, so correct me if I'm wrong or I'm missing some steps.
I have two routers to work with.
1st, I enter global config mode on the first router
2nd, I configure the router name
3rd, I configure the console, vty, and enable passwords.
4th, I configure the interfaces (serial and fast ethernet)
5th, I enter the RIP network addresses
6th, I save the info with copy running-config startup-config
7th, I repeat this process with the second router
What's left? Lastly, I suppose the teacher is going to get me to confirm that everything is correct, so will this likely be a ping test or what? I've emailed her about it, but the answer is pending. I would appreciate some input. Thanks.

Inc Member Posts: 184Since it's "your" mid-term, I'm not giving you an easy way out.
1. open http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk365/tk554/tsd_technology_support_sub-protocol_home.html
2. read it, comprehend it
3. use it to solve your task
A tip: RIP has nothing to do with router hostname -

james_ Member Posts: 97 ■■□□□□□□□□The most important command there would be to tell the router what routing protocol it will be using. If you do not do this first, you will not be able to perform step 5.
It is good practice to setup the passwords, but as INC mentioned, not necessary for RIP configuration. If soley for RIP, I would:
1. Login and enter Priv. Exec Mode (Enable mode)
2. Enter Global Config. mode
3. Configure required interfaces with IP and Mask, issue No Shut on each interface
(also set the clock rate if need be between 2 routers on the DCE side)
4. Enter rip configuration mode (Router Rip) from Global config.
5. Advertise the necessary networks using the classful IP address
6. Repeat on all other routers taking part in the RIP network
Hope this is of some use.
James.
Edit: And of course use a <wr> or <copy run start> to save my work -

Why aren't you making it easy? This isn't an actual mid-term question; it's a practice example. I need things as simple as you can make them, plz. -
