local people only

Just a quick question,
Im wanting to move back down to Atlanta now that im graduating college. Ive lived in Atlanta most of my life, but have been displaced here in Myrtle Beach for a few years. Looking through the ads for jobs there, it seems to be an inordinate number of jobs with the requirement of "local applicants only". I consider my home Atlanta, but would these people?? Also why do they put this restriction on the job applicant???
I guess my real question is >> Can I apply for these jobs even though im not exactly living in the metro area at this moment in time?? thanks

Companies put that on there job descriptions to say they don't want to (or won't) pay relocation cost. I would go ahead and apply anyway and tell them you can cover the relocation cost yourself, also mention that you are from that area. Good Luck
