SATA Problem

Hello.

I have just built a new computer running 64bit windows xp.

I have 2 SATA drives @ 250gig. and 2 IDE running at 500gig.

The computer can see both IDE drives, but only one SATA drive at a time.
If all drives are plugged in, it won't boot. Then it has problems booting after you unplug one of the SATA (many restarts)

Does anyone know of any solutions?

Its giving me a Boot Disk Failure. But after many restarts, it boots.

Are two SATA drives the same make and model? Have you verified that they work in another computer? If the Autodetect Hard Drives feature in the CMOS setup doesn't recognize a drive then the drive or cable is likely bad, or the cable is not properly seated on the drive or motherboard connector.

Yep, the drives are the same make and model. The autodetect will only see one of the drives. I'll check the cable later when i get off work

You've probably done this, but go into the bios and make sure the proper SATA channels are set to autodetect (I've had the second SATA drive show up on the SATA5 connection in bios before) and then check the boot order as well.
All things are possible, only believe.

Yeh they're both on Auto Detect, I will check to see if the cable is bad.

You see, when I unplug one of the drives, the one plugged in shows up in BIOS and vice versa.

Its as though they're trying to show up on the same controller.

Maybe the drive is bad, this sucks. I just got the drive last thursday.
I'm hoping its the cable, probably not though.

    Okay.

    Just got back to work...

...I tried; changing the cables around unplugging power to see if it was a power problem.

Unplugged ALL of the drives and just plugged in that one, doesn't even show up in BIOS.

    DEAD DRIVE!!

    This sucks.

    Time to contact newegg.com
It's likely that NewEgg will tell you to RMA the drive directly to the manufacturer. Luckily, this is easy to do on the Web sites of all major drive manufacturers. And it's usually quicker to get a replacement directly from the manufacturer rather than from a the retailer--who may not ship you a replacement until they receive an RMA replacement for the bad drive.
