I just recently got setup with my first job in the field. Its through a company that contracts jobs out to individual technicians. So far its been great, most of it is hardware replacement on laptops and desktops. The main reason why I am doing it is to have it on my resume and gain experience.

Well done. Keep gaining the experience and make sure you interact with senior people to get them to pass on their skills. If they see you're comptent (and they will be able to determine if you're not) with the basic stuff, they'll have no problems in allowing you to handle bigger tasks.
