Network Monitoring Software?

Hey All.....

I've been asked to look for some network monitoring software to install on our servers at work.

What does everyone around here use? I havent really gotten the full set of requirements from my manager yet, but i assume i'll need to know if ping packets are not getting through, maybe also be able to monitor/listen to the ports.... things like that.

What apps are available - freeware or otherwise?
