show ip route rip/eigrp

aueddonlineaueddonline Member Posts: 611 ■■□□□□□□□□
i've been messing around with some routing protocols today and looking at the results in the show ip route (route table)

in the table RIP gives admin distance 120 followed by hop count 1 so 120/1

then i enable eigrp

eigrp shows 90/2195456, i know 90's the amin distance wahts the long number all about?

The route in question is over a 56k serial link

This is compostie metric...Calculated by bandwidth and delay. The actual formula is slightly complex so you would want to read up on that.
There is no place like 127.0.0.1 BUT 209.62.5.3 is my 127.0.0.1 away from 127.0.0.1!

Also while you are reading about the composite metric, read a little on the Variance multiplier command. This is a nifty little tool that enables you to load balance routes that are within a set variance. See the composite metric is complex to the point where there might not ever be 2 or more routes with the same metric to the same subnet. IT VARIES....

So we can set the amount of variance that is considered equal. Isn't that cool. Maybe you already knew that but just in case i thought I would throw it in there.
