Administrative shares

The MS book states that Admin, Server Operators and Backup Operators can connect to Admin shares.

But a few pages later it says that only Admin can access these.

Am I missing something or reading it wrong? Explainify please!

I think it depends... For instance, someone in the backup operators group has the RIGHT to backup files and folders that they may not have PERMISSION to access. There is a difference between rights (which is something a user can DO) vs permissions (which is what an ACE controls).

So I'm just guessing, but that might make a difference. Can you read the books statements again and see if that makes sense? Maybe the statements are not contradictory, just confusing.

I think you may be right.

It could all be down to the difference between having rights to back up a share and permission to access it through Explorer etc.
