Server 2003 licensing

Im using the 180 day trial of Server 2003 and Im reading the chapter about Licensing in the Microsoft Press 70-290 book. But I can't follow along with the book cause Licensing is not supported in the trial. I have a couple of questions if someone could help me out.

1. When you license a Server 2003 server, how do you do it? Do you just enter the number of licenses that you have and the type(server,user o rdevice) and that's it?

2. How does it verify that you actually have those licenses? Do you have to activate your licenses?

3. What happens if you only have 5 CALs but enter like 50?
