Complete beginner

Go easy guys i am a complete beginner where sql is concerned. I have to install a product that needs to use a sql database. How do i setup an instance for this product. We are using SQL 2000.

If you are already using SQL Server 2000, it is most likely setup using the default instance. If you would like to create a new instance, install SQL Server again and choose to create a new instance. You will have to give the instance a name if it is not the default instance. What is it you are trying to accomplish? A new instance might not be necessary. A single instance can handle many different databases within it.
