Wonky CD/DVD's
Hey guys heres a wonky CD/DVD problem for you.
1. The cd rom works for a few days, everything is fine.
2. The cd rom suddenly stops reading data on CD/DVD's, it still recognizes the disk and says theres one in the drive, but when you try to read it, it asks you to insert a readable CD.
3. Currently the fix is to uninstall the driver and reboot. In which case, go to step 1.
Has anyone come across this problem?
Win XP Pro machines.
Dell Optiplex 260/70/80/745
Dell Lattitude 600/610/512/520s
Its a generic image for all of those devices so I imagine its something that has to do with that, but anyone that has a fix or could point me in the right direction, that'd be great.

WanBoy67 Member Posts: 225See if you can get the latest firmware update for the drive and try it out a few machines where the problem is most noticeable.
When you say remove the driver, are you talking about the built-in Microsoft drivers and you are removing the device in Device Manager?Yes we can, yes we can... -
mzgavc Member Posts: 75 ■■□□□□□□□□I'll uninstall the drivers through Device Manager on the Properties page of the CD/DVD
EDIT: All machines have the latest BIOS upgrades from Dell -
WanBoy67 Member Posts: 225Are you using any additional IDE controller drivers?Yes we can, yes we can...

I have looked around dells site and found the firmware updates for some of the cd roms. Hopefully this solves the issue.
I'll have a go at a few machines with those and see how they work.
Thanks,
