Remote Assistance and Windows Messenger

Is passport.net account necessary to use Windows Messenger with the remote assistance?
What happens if you only have a internal network with no internet connection -- the passport.net won't work?

Well, you can still use remote assistance but not with messenger (since the messenger service will be unavailable).
You could send the invite by email for example.Doom969

You could enable "Offer Remote Assistance" in group policy. Then when the user wants help, you initiate the Remote Assistance session, the user accepts, you request control and bada bing bada bam....you have control of the users PC. -

The reason I asked this question is because there's one practice exam that uses messenger for remote assistance.
The problem is I can't sign in to messenger without a internet connection and passport.net.
