When I connect a serial device to my laptop to access them via console, I can see things boot up fine and get prompted for password, etc, but I can't type anything. Tried different cable, different devices, same problem. Windows XP, Dell laptop.
Am I headed for a motherboard replacement? Any suggestions?

seuss_ssues Member Posts: 629Are you using a usb to serial converter?
Are you sure you have all the proper settings in your terminal emulation software?
What device are you connecting to and what are using to terminal in? -
binarysoul Member Posts: 993It's a just the regular console cable (9-pin I believe) and there is nothing wrong with the settings. I'm connecting a Packetshaper to it and using same settings as I've alwayd used. Suddenly, it stopped working.

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,089 AdminIs local echo on the serial device turned off? For a modem, ATE1 turns local echo on so you can see what you type. Try a different router or modem as the serial device.

binarysoul Member Posts: 993Thanks guys. It turned out that the port is bad and the motherboard has to be replaced. I used the same device/cable on antoher PC and had no problem.

However I just wanted to say thanks for "closing" your thread. I hate when im trying to research a problem and run into forum posts that never indicate what the solution was.
