New to networking and cisco

Hi,

I want to begin to study for my CCNA, but I have no experience with networking. I heard from others that I need to know the basics of Net+ or I would have a hard time understanding the CCNA book I've bought by Todd Lammle. What should I do? Do I need to study the Net+ books first or can I jump right into the CCNA book?

I'd jump into CCNA. network plus and the INTRO part of CCNA overlaps alot.
Fantastic. The project manager is inspired.

It definatly would help you to learn the basics from a network fundamentals book. I wouldn't take the NET+ exam though if you are only interested in Cisco, but since you are first starting out I'm sure you don't know what all interests you! So what I'm trying to say is learn the material it is helpful, but you don't have to spend the money on the exam.

Todd's book is great for learning subnetting and is a "fun read." But if you're learning this stuff for the first time you might need the Odom books to cover all the stuff you'd need to learn for the CCNA.

I would go straight to the CCNA. If you have any question on the way, feel free to ask or create a post for it. I'd be glad to help you out if I can.

    Regards.

Thank you guys. What Odom book would be best for starters? Someone in the field told me to just glance through the Network Essentials for dummies book.

The point is, should he go for the two exam path or the one exam path, I'm basically like him... I'm kind of considering the two exam path: ICND1 and ICND2

Any advice? Approximately how long it would take one to complete and be ready, for someone that has an average level of understanging?

Network for dummies would probably help get some basic concepts down, but I'm not sure I haven't read it. The exam certification guides by Odom were the best in my opinion. Make sure you get the ones for 802 exam since you are just starting out.
