Does the 2600 router support intervlan routing?

Hi,
can anyone tell me if the 2600 router supports inter vlan routing? I am trying to configure it to do so but the router only has 10mb ethernet port although it will let me create sub interfaces on it. Will I have to reduce the speed on the swithports to 10mb too?

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModAccording to the Cisco documentation you need a fastethernet port but I have not tried it on a ethernet port. Others here say that it is supported on an ethernet port but I can not verify that. Check out this link http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/50.shtml for more info.An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

So I guess the bottom line question is:
is it possible to do intervlan routing through a 10mb Ethernet port? -

You need trunking and subinterfaces to do this. The 2500 series does not support this thanks to the 10M ethernet chipset. I believe you need FastEthernet to make this work. If anyone can make it work on a 10M 2500 series interface I would like to know. -

Hi,
I am not talking about the 2500 series, I was taliking about the 2600 specifically 2612 IOS version 12.3.
Although my router has only 10mb e port.I can create sub interfaces.
At the moment I can ping each host on seperate vlans via the router but cannot ping each hosts on different vlans from host to host. But I can ping host to host that are on the same vlan. So I guess the problem must be with the router.
I feel like I am almost complete with this lab...So near yet so far -

so its my configuration So can you pop round here and show me where I went wrong? I`m just outside Bangkok -
mikej412 Member Posts: 10,086 ■■■■■■■■■■It might just be easier if you play with it for a bit and then if you don't get it, post your config. Someone should be along shortly and can critique your config -- it's just after 3am here outside Chicago and I should try to get at least 3 hours of sleep. Plus I'm on-site tomorrow, er... today, and then it's the weekend....
Make sure you manually configure trunking on the switch (and make sure the encapsulation type matches between router & switch).
Do a show ip route on the router and make sure you see the connected networks on the sub-interfaces.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

Do you have the host gateways set to the router's IP Address on the sub-interface for the vlan?
I made a stupid gateway error on the host, I miss typed it, You where correct. It works fine now. My very first intervlan network strange I was looking too deep into a simple solution. -

That's right. I know you were talking about the 2600. I threw in the 2500 experience as you say you are also using 10M ports. But it looks like you have a solution! The 2500/2600 controllers are most probably different. If I remember 2600 was the spec you needed to do this. It's been a while since I had to do one armed routing.
Glad it's working for you!
Here's a config for anyone else interested.
