Boot Disk for Proliant required

TurgonTurgon Banned Posts: 6,308 ■■■■■■■■■□
I have a Proliant DL360 that I need an MSDOS 6.2 floppy boot disk for. I need to boot up and format a primary DOS partition prior to installing Netware. I have tried MS-DOS 6.2 and 6.0 floppies from bootdisk.com but to no avail.

I get the old 'non system disk or disk error' message.

Has anyone got any alternative URLS to try to obtain a boot disk? There is no OS presently loaded on the 2 x 18.2 GB ULTRA 3 SCSI disks and the hardware seems fine according to Smart Array Controller and BIOS.

I will be burning SmartStart 5.60 to see if that helps.

Cheers.

***I'll add you can Capitalize the word 'I' to show a little respect for yourself too.

    'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.... weird?

Thanks but I mentioned I already tried trusty www.bootdisk.com. No joy so far. I will see how I get on with Smartstart and plugging away with other boot disk variants.

Why of course you did icon_redface.gif

I didn't see it as it wasn't a link and I simply scanned over top. Sorry.

Why don't you use Proliant SmartStart CD to do all the magic? It's been a while I worked with these server, but I believe it DOES have Netware support! Or could it be you need a partition before using SmartStart, catch 22? maybe?

Could you use a bootable CD instead? Could the floppy drive be bad?

Can you boot to a W2K3 or XP CD as if you were going to install that OS, and go as far as formatting a primary partition and then cancel?
All things are possible, only believe.

Hey no worries thanks very much for helping out. The latest is I finally got the Proliant to boot from a disk from bootdisk.com. It took a few goes which is strange but there we have it. Im about to install a small DOS partition now before trying Netware 5.1

The issue now is editing the config.sys etc to see the CD-ROm drive. It's a minor thing but it's been a while (what 8 years) so if you or anyone else knows the magic lines to insert by all means fire away!

I have the necessary driver cpqidecd.sys

    Cheers

I was thinking this site...then I saw the link I posted above. Possibly there is something in there you can gleam? Computer hope has all those obscure things I once knew on their site, so when I forget (from lack of using them) I search there.

Also nice to hear you were able to find a bootdisk :)

It's all working. I found some example lines for config.sys and autoexec.bat to get the Proliant CDROM drive working from DOS. From the CDROM I then installed a new Netware 5.1 server in a new tree running NDS and IBM Websphere.

My first Netware server in years. A sweet addition to the home lab.
