Dod tcp ip model

Is this still on the CCNA?

Funny thing is I work for the DOD, and the DOD model is never talked about. But the OSI model is used all the time.

    This is the only thing I see under the blue print in reference to any models:

    * Utilize the OSI model as a guide for systematic network troubleshooting

    So please, I am not trying to get insider info or anything like that. Just not really sure if I should waste my time memorizing this model if there is not need to do that.

    THanks all

    The DoD model is really called the TCP/IP model as I think it goes back to TCP/IP being created at the DoD or department of Defense.

    The OSI model is conceptual, it is all theory for aiding in design and troubleshooting problems. The DOD model is practical, it is what is really out in the field. Expect to see questions on both given the size of the test bank. Once you have OSI locked down, DOD is not that much more. For example

    OSI DOD
    Application
    Presentation========Application
    Session

    Transport==========Transport

    Network===========Internetwork

    Data Link==========Network Interface
    Physical

    They line up just like that. There will not be a whole lot of questions like what is layer 2 of the DOD model or which layer of DOD is the OSI model. The knowledge of the OSI/DOD models will aid you in determining the proper course of action or response on a more complicated question. If you don't have the models down you will not know how to proceed.

    Thanks guys

    Learning the model is not that big of a deal, I was just wondering if they still tested on it.

    yes

    its always a good thing to know it in detail and how it corresponds to the OSI model

    its probably covered on the exam.. in fact im sure it is because of such a big part it plays. It won't be called the DoD model these days, just the TCP/IP model
