Is Recursion Disabled by default on DNS Servers that are authoritatibe for a root zone?

It seems i am still wraping my head around DNS Details.

Recursion is enabled by default no matter what, you have to explicitly disable it under the "Advanced" tab when you select the properties of your server (it also disables forwarding).

Also note that when a DNS server is set as a Root Server, it will not send any queries to go upstream - the Root is the very top of the "DNS Pyramid"
