well guys in my last few days before the ICND and i've just been going over my weaker areas and been wondering something that wasn't explained well in my studies in my various resources or I just missed it completly
my question deals with routing updates...i'll use RIP as my example v1 and v2
RIP v1 sends updatest they're a broadcast while
while v2 sends updates they're a multicast to 224.0.0.9
my question is what is the major benefit of sending updates this way my material seems to be lacking that or i'm just out of it.
let me know when you get a chance guys
thanks

multicast= only devices wanting the data get it (well this is a very basic explanation, but basically the routers are listening for the multicast while other devices are not)
The benefit should be less traffic on the network as I understand it, maybe others will contribute with a better technical explanation. -
