I being my journey

Well some of you may know me from the cisco forum well i've decided to obtain my MCSA next, i love networking but in IT you have to be able to support an MS environment. So here's my plan i have a voucher for XP that expires late next month, now i've been supporting XP in a domain environment for close to 2 years and recently my job role is working in AD building accounts/permissions etc...i kinda do the simple work that our sys admins don't want to be bothered with. but hey its exposure to new things away form helpdesk. Now i've never taken an MS exam and i hear they are very different. So here's my game plan read the ExamCram 2 for XP and set up a domain in VMware..being that i have 2 years of support with XP i feel i may be alright...let me know what you gusy think..

if you take 70-620 (Vista) as your OS instead of XP you will also earn:
Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: Windows Vista, Configuration.

just in case you missed that on the MS site.

Being that you have 2 years exp. with xp , i dont think that you'll have problems. Remember tho that you also need to know thing that are related to xp not being in a domain. Like, internet sharing, firewall, efx(standalone), backups (xp), etc... Also, make sure you know scanstate and loadstate, etc.. I'm sure you'll do well.
    Good Luck ! :D

Hi Shednik, nice to have you visit on the MS side. :)
I can honestly say that while Cisco stuff is "addictive" like caffine, MS stuff just kind of grows on you - like mold or fungus. icon_lol.gif
If you are confident with your XP skills and ALL the Skills Being Measured then you should do fine with your plan above. However, as many have mentioned, it's possible you have not used many of the skills they will test you on, so be sure to check out that list. If you feel you need more, get the MS Press book. Many people who have worked with XP for a number of years are probably more familiar with the stuff on the MCDST (271-272) track than with 70-270.

Anyway welcome to the MS forums, and good luck! icon_cool.gif

WOW...i love that analogy its so true...the reason i'm choosing the ExamCram is my voucher expires 11/20 and with class, full-time job, and family spare time isn't very plentiful. I'm sure you know what I mean and I've always had good luck with their books, well we'll see. Is the free second chance offer still out there and will it work if i'm using a voucher??

The free second shot offer is still valid, but as it is a voucher in itself, I doubt you can use it with another voucher. I beleive you can only use one voucher per exam....

    Good luck icon_wink.gif
