I took 70-291 first, and even though everyone says that 290 is easier, I was surprised at how much easier this one was.
I saw lots of NTFS/share permissions, a good amount of WSUS, more performance monitoring than I expected, and less Terminal Services than I expected....lots of simulations, too.
I studied using CBT Nuggets videos and the Transcender tests primarily with the O'Reilley MCSE Core Exams in a Nutshell as a quick reference and review guide. I have the 1st ed MS Press book, but I never used it, and I spent very little time with my test lab (I already had a good amount of hands on experience).
Next up is either 70-270 or one of the security electives.
