Getting Screwed
Hi, just need a little help from I am getting screwed again in VTP trunking for the last time I am going to ask this.
In VTP server mode it create a vlan.dat in NVRAM or FLASH memory. (correct)
In VTP client mode it syn it's vlan database from VTP server BUT it will not save in NVRAM. (right or wrong)??????
I am getting confused bec. according to Cisco press by david or from Cisco before we join a new switch that is used before as a client we need to set it's revision to ZERO.
So for me this is clear but how come it can store its revision and domain name that is save in vlan.dat right.
Can you give me a GOOD explanation of this or maybe it will take only partial...config..
like I have checked Cisco Site and mentioned that it will not save the ENTIRE config even issue the copy run start cmd except for VTP transparent.
Your help is appreciated.
My EXAM is rescheduled next 2008 jan 10, got to really really make it perfect.

Go down to page 13. That should answer your question. It depends on what model the switch is.CCNP | CCIP | CCDP | CCNA, CCDA
CCNA Security | GSEC |GCFW | GCIH | GCIA

I believe that the VLAN information is stored in the flash memory. That is why when you want to reset your switch, you issue two commands ( write erase and delete vlan.dat )
While we are talking about VTP, I have two confusing scenarios.
1. Two switches one configured as Server and the other one as Client.
both belong to the same domain and same password
the server has a revision number of 10 and the client 15
what will happen when your bring up the client?
2. The Client is configured with a domain name and no password
Nothing is configured on the server (new switch)
client has a revision number of 8
What will happen in this case when your bring up the server?
Could someone comment on these scenarios? -

That is why it is important to set the revision number when you add a new switch to the domain. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.
