I've been using the Sybex book preparing for the exam and I have a question concerning security settings. Apparently, there is a huge number of settings and definitions for security. Do you need to memorize these and their application, or just have a general understanding?

I was startled to come across all of that as well. You don't need to memorize all of them. I'd go through a few practice tests and see which ones keep coming up. Some are more popular than others, and you will likely see a couple questions concerning them. Don't spend too much time on them now, you'll get a better feel for it as you progress in your studies.
