My Computer hangs when it's trying to shutdown. icon_cry.gif

I attempt to shut down from the Start menu and it hangs at the
"Windows is shutting Down" screen. What do I do. I have been having to manually hold the power button in order for the system to shutdown.

icon_eek.gif MS has a patch for Win98 SE but what about Win98 1st Edition?

Your help is needed-Thanks Crew.

Since you know that, here's the next logical thing to do:

    Boot into DOS

    Install Win98SE

yeah but formatting his harddrive would get rid of all his important files right. And I don't think the "It's safe to turn off your computer now" screen is of such an importance as to call for the formatting of the whole disk.

I used to have that problem in a computer I used to use some 5 years ago, and I never worried about it. It had one of those old I/O switches so I just used to turn it off when it hanges on that screen.

Vwtech: If your computer is fast, I think you should upgrade to WinXp.

    Luck.
