What is an "Appended" backup?

Server+ objective 4.1 makes reference to an "appended" backup. What does that mean?

It does not overwrite the previous backup or make an entirely new backup. It simply appends the changes since the last backup.

How is that different from an "incremental" backup?

They are the same - just different words I believe.

No, they are not the same.

An incremental backup has to do with the backup job. It only backs up what has changed since the last backup job was one.

When you append a backup it is dealing with the tape. When you append a backup job to a tape it starts backing up data to the tape were the last backup job left off. the other option is to overwite the tape. The backup job starts at the beginning of the tape and overwrites whatever is there.

In that case, they would be the same, but that is the only time I have ever seen someone use the workd Appended in reference to a type of backup job.

Same here. It's easy to see why the OP was confused. I was answering based on the Server+ objectives, which doesn't seem to use standard terminology.
