Hi, I have a situation a work, where a client has brought in a home D-Link Switch to split a network connection for 4 PC's. 2 of them can not reach the DHCP server to get an IP address, why would this be ?

Bad cables, dead ports, dead NICs, clients not configured to obtain IP address automatically, etc.

I'd have him start by checking the client configuration as well as switching cables around and trying different ports on the switch. Try and isolate the problem as much as you can.

You have the Network+ and CCNA certifications and you need to ask such a simple network troubleshooting question? icon_scratch.gif

Make sure you're using straight through patch cables and not crossover cables unless your switch has an uplink port. Uplink port basically allows you to use either a straight through or crossover cable.
