Can anyone explain?
If I have 2 VLANS, 1 on ID 1, and the other on ID 2
I have 2 ports on switch 1 with VLAN2 ID 2 - does the other switch have to correspond to that ID? Or can is be VLAN2 ID1? How does it know it is the correct VLAN?

Any devices within VLAN2 will also need to be assigned to VLAN 2, and they all need to belong to the same subnet. To answer your question in laymens terms, the ethernet header carries a VLAN tag within it.
