apple 20" display with dell xps 1330

ok I bought an apple display hoping to use it with my dell xps 1330.

I'm using a DVI to VGA converter to plug the display into my laptop and there is nothing coming up on the sreen, like at all it's blank. The power light is on the display and my laptop recogizes that a Cinima display is plugged into it.

The dell uses the Geforce 8400GS graphics card. not that different from the Macbook pro that uses the GeForce 8600M GT.

Should the apple display show something on the screen when I turn it on even if it doesn't like my laptop?
I haven't seen the display working yet so i'm trying to elimiate the thought that the display might not work?

any help out there,

Just saying from experience, make sure you go to desktop properties and make sure you click on number 2 monitor and check that box thats says extend this desktop or something.

    Hope this helps,

Why waste such a lovely piece of equipment on a dell of all things :)

I'm joking! those are very nice screens and there have been a few occasions where I have been stood memorized in the Apple store " ohhhhhhhhhh pretttttty "

price tag is kinda scary though lol

+1. On the half-dozen Dells I have had, I always had to force it over to the external monitor initially. You should be able to do this in display properties as well.
