Basic vs Dynamic disc

I am a little confused this morning. Someone set me strait.

Question asked me to choose the correct disc setup for my server. I am installing one 20gig hd and two 100gig hd's. I have an app. that needs 120gig of space.

The correct answer is to configure the 20gig as basic and the 100gig discs as dynamic. I understand that I would do this to create a spanned volume for the 120gig app. but couldnt I setup all the disc as basic extended partitions and get the same result?

OK, had to go back and take a look at basic extended drives. I need to have on logical volume that is at least 120gig's. Although I can extend basic disc they will still be several logical drives so I would be unable to load my app. That is why I need to have a single spanned volume...had to drink that second cup of joe...
