Wow. This is really cool (usb dock for internal SATA drives)

I can think of a ton of uses for this. The reviews make it sound like it has a few quirks, but it's an interesting new product.

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,089 AdminI got real excited about this until I looked it up on Newegg and saw the external connection is USB and not eSata. I'd buy several of them right now for $40/each if it were for EIDE drives, but running a 1.5/3.0 Gbit/s SATA drive over a 480 Mbit/s USB 2.0 bus isn't worth even that low price.

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,089 AdminThat's too bad. I really like Thermaltake's products too. They even have a HDD docking station that's a USB hub too. But, once again, you're not gonna get anywhere near SATA-speed from it. Best to use one of Thermaltake's eSATA external drive enclosures.

dynamik Banned Posts: 12,312 ■■■■■■■■■□I was thinking about using it as a troubleshooting/minor recovery tool (i.e. Windows won't load, can you try to recover a few documents for me?). It seems like it would be slick for things like that. The speed issues are obvious, and I didn't intend to propose it as something that would be used for regular use.
