About the only usefulness might be if you worked for or supported a company that had some older CatOS switches. Then you could practice the commands you need to know to support the switches. -

I believe the CCNA tests on either the 2950 or 2960."No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." -Heraclitus -

Plus if you set your coffee cup on it while its running, it could keep your coffee warm.
For the CCNA you'd want a couple of 2950/2960 switches if you can afford them, and a 2924-XL-EN as a 3rd switch to save some money.
If money is an issues -- then 1 2950 and 2 2924-XL-EN switches.
I've seen 2950s sold for less than $100 on eBay lately -- yet some people still bid the $20-$30 2924-XL-EN switches up to $100, and I saw someone bid a 2950 up over $300:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

I did win a couple of 2950s on ebay a couple of weeks ago. One I won for $105.50 and the next day I won it for $124.50. Although they're both in the lower ends of what others I've watched sold for, I feel that I could've probably won one much cheaper. Just like anything, patience and persistence is the key. I probably lost about 30 total bids to the 2 that I won.CCIE Wr: In Progress...
